Fantasy Football Start or Sit Week 9: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

When it comes to his Fantasy Football value heading into Week 9, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is as inconsistent as they come. Owners should look elsewhere this week as he faces the Miami Dolphins.

It’s no secret that this season has been a complete and utter disaster for the New York Jets when it comes to their quarterback situation. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been a massive disappointment this season and well, he was promptly benched in favor of Geno Smith. Unfortunately, Smith suffered a torn ACL injury and is out for the year, leaving the Jets no other choice but to go back to the bearded one. Should fantasy football owners trust Fitzpatrick to get the job done in Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins?

In the grand scheme of things, Fitzpatrick is too inconsistent to trust as a starting quarterback in fantasy lineups this week. He makes irrational decisions on the football field and doesn’t have the proper arm strength to hit receiving options in stride.

The game plan the Jets will more than likely launch this week to extend their winning streak to three games is to focus on their ground game. The Jets benched Fitzpatrick for a reason and they shouldn’t put him in a position to throw 30-40 times a game with hopes of beating the Dolphins.

If the Jets have any shot at beating their AFC East neighbors, it’ll come down to their commitment to the run. Fantasy football owners should look elsewhere this week for a quarterback since Fitzpatrick for all we know could have another disastrous performance filled with interceptions and be completely ineffective.

With the fantasy season getting into the start of November, it’s best to stick with other quarterbacks that will actually put you in a position to score points. There’s a big reason why Fitzpatrick is still available in a majority of leagues everywhere. He’s not good and the only reason he’s still starting is because Smith is out and backup quarterback Bryce Petty isn’t 100% ready to be unleashed just yet.

Overall, Fitzpatrick will continue being not only a disappointment with the Jets but a terrible option as a fantasy option. Sit him this week and don’t dare look back.
