Former Los Angeles Rams QB Nick Foles Shines For Kansas City Chiefs
Former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Nick Foles took over for an injured Alex Smith on Sunday.
After a disastrous 2015 season in which he threw just seven touchdowns in 11 games, the Los Angeles Rams knew they were making the right decision in July when they released Nick Foles, even if they did lose some money in the process.
Shortly after his release, Foles reunited with his former head coach Andy Reid as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs to serve as a backup to Alex Smith. On Sunday, Foles saw his first action for the Chiefs during the regular season, and let’s just say he came up big when his team needed him the most against the Indianapolis Colts.
When Smith was forced to leave the game due to a concussion, it was Foles that saved the team after the backup quarterback completed 16 of 22 passes for 223 yards to go along with two touchdowns. While Kansas City’s defense was effective by limiting Andrew Luck and the Colts to scoring just 14 points, it was a nice surprise to see Reid’s offense score as many points as they did.
From the perspective of the Rams, it’s hard not to wonder where Foles was hiding these type of performances all of last season.
Obviously, the situation is much different for Foles in Kansas City when considering he has a much better receiving corps, but the quarterback position has been a frustrating issue for Los Angeles when looking at the struggles of Case Keenum. Everything happens for a reason, but seeing Foles display this type of performance against the Colts has to be a tough pill to swallow for Rams fans.
With that being said, the decision to move on from Foles was necessary and will pay off when looking at the potential surrounding No. 1 pick Jared Goff running the offense when the time is right, whether that ends up being in the second half of 2016 or next season.
