Giants LB Jon Beason on track to finally make his 2015 debut
The past two seasons have not gone as planned for New York Giants linebacker Jon Beason. Between a toe and knee injury, Beason has missed the majority of the Giants' last 18 regular season games. This Thursday night, he plans to make his 2015 debut after practicing without limitations on Tuesday.
“Players want to play,” Beason said, per Giants.com. “I don’t want to give a play back, but you are smart enough to know that conditioning comes into effect, practice reps, getting that mental rep is important as well, so I’ll play the best I can for the time that I have and that’s my mentality going into it.”
Beason has missed time with a knee sprain that he suffered during a preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in August. Beason talked about how he approached the recovery process from this injury a bit differently than other injuries in the past.
“I’m just looking for the nod, just looking for the nod, that’s it,” Beason said. “Going into the season, it was still sore and in years past I would risk it all for one play. You play in one game and you end of missing a lot more, so it was probably the smartest thing to do, maybe give something back early to gain a lot in the end.”
The Giants' defense has struggled to stop tight ends and running backs in the passing game while Beason has been out. Undrafted free agent Uani' Unga has stepped in at middle linebacker, but he has struggled in pass coverage. If healthy, Beason's return will be a major boost for the defense.
