GM McCloughan: We'd love to get 10-plus picks in this draft

Could the Washington Redskins be gearing up for a potential trade down? It likely depends on who falls to them when they're on the board at No. 5 overall. Just a few days ago, new general manager Scot McCloughan admitted that the team would try to trade back in the draft if USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams was still on the board when they pick.

McCloughan confirmed that claim when describing his ideal plan for the draft.

"We'd love to get more picks in this draft," the Redskins' new general manager said at his pre-draft press conference. "We have our seven originals right now. I'd love to get 10-plus out of this thing."

McCloughan made it clear that the Redskins will not fall into the trap of drafting a player just to fill a team need.

"We're not going to draft for need," McCloughan said.

In order to stick to this plan but also fill out the number of glaring needs that former general manager Bruce Allen has left to him, McCloughan will need to acquire more draft picks. Don't be surprised if you see the Redskins move down from the No. 5 overall slot on Thursday night.
