Hank Bauer will not return to San Diego Chargers' radio booth

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 1:02 a.m. ET

The San Diego Chargers are planning a change in their radio broadcast team.

Three sources told FOX Sports that Hank Bauer will not be returning to the booth for the 2015 season. XTRA 1360 is the flagship station for the team's radio network.

A Chargers spokesman confirmed the decision, which was made by Clear Channel Media.

Bauer, 60, joined San Diego's announcing team in 1998. He was a Chargers fullback from 1977-82 and built a reputation as one of the NFL's top special-teams players. He then coached special teams with the Chargers from 1983-86 before venturing into television broadcasting.

Bauer was suspended for one preseason game in 2014 after making what was construed as an anti-Semitic joke, which could have contributed to San Diego's decision to cut ties. Bauer apologized and returned to announce San Diego's entire 16-game regular-season schedule.

It's believed the Chargers have not settled yet on Bauer's replacement. Bauer couldn't be reached for comment.
