Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz has already done something no other quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles has ever done.

Rookie quarterback Carson Wentz becomes the first quarterback in the history of the Philadelphia Eagles to start week one of an NFL season. Head coach Doug Pederson made the move official at about 11:30 AM as he announced the news during his Monday morning press conference.

“This is why we drafted him. He’s ready to go”.

Pederson quickly erased any doubt of any controversy or locker room tension by adding that, while backup quarterback Chase Daniel spent the entire off-season and pre-season ahead of Wentz on the depth chart, this move doesn’t create any drama between the two. “If I was Chase, I’d be a little disappointed…I’d hope he would be”.

He immediately followed that comment by relaying that while that’s the case, Daniel is nothing but a team guy and is truly supportive in every way possible. He also reminded everyone of his familiarity with Daniel due to the time they spent together with the Kansas City Chiefs and how well they’ve gotten to know each other over that span of time.

Wentz appears to be back to playing form in spite of the rib injury he suffered during the Eagles’ first pre-season game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Pederson reminded everyone in attendance that this entire team has love for Bradford, but they’ve spent the entire pre-season with Wentz as well. Everyone believes in him, sees his professionalism towards the game and are fully supportive of him.

Rookie running back Wendell Smallwood was also mentioned as he should be ready to go for the first game as well. Defensive end Vinny Curry is the only member of the Eagles’ roster who is still a question mark but he’s “day-to-day” and hasn’t been ruled out of Sunday’s contest yet.

The Eagles will march into week one relatively healthy, and the Carson Wentz era is officially underway.
