Houston Texans: Brock Osweiler states the obvious, Hopkins needs the ball

Houston Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler said he needs to get DeAndre Hopkins the football so their top receiver can make some big plays

For those of you out there wondering what the deal was with DeAndre Hopkins catching just one pass last week, Brock Osweiler hears you. He also says the obvious thing we all know, that Hopkins needs the football in his hands.

Osweiler also knows that forcing the ball to Nuk isn’t a good idea. He recently spoke on the situation and stated that he needs to start delivering better passes to the Texans’ number one wideout.

“I wouldn’t call it trying to force the ball to Hop. I would call it I need to make a more accurate throw,” Osweiler said via Sarah Barshop of ESPN. “There is a fine line of do you try to force your No. 1 wide receiver the football? But in those cases I don’t think we were forcing anything, I just think I need to make better decisions and throw more accurate footballs.”

In 33 pass attempts to Hopkins this season, Osweiler has completed 17 of them for 227 yards. The the near fifty-percent completions are bad. Even worse, five of Brock’s six interceptions on the season have come while trying to deliver the ball to number ten.

The first-year Texans quarterback has built an amazing rapport with rookie receiver Will Fuller. Those two have been on the same page since day one, and Osweiler knows for the team to get better, he has to find a way to get on the same page with the other starting receiver as well.

It’s admirable that Osweiler is willing to point out that he’s at fault for Hopkins recent struggles. Now it’s time for him to turn those words into results. On Sunday against Minnesota, the Texans could surely use some accurate passes to one of the better playmakers in the NFL.
