Injury Update: Pederson says both Zach Ertz and Leodis McKelvin are week to week
Doug Pederson addressed the Philadelphia media Monday morning, and we can officially rule Zach Ertz and Leodis McKelvin out of the Eagles next game.
Tight end Zach Ertz and cornerback Leodis McKelvin are officially out of the gameplan for week two. Head coach Doug Pederson took about 30 minutes to address members of the Philadelphia media on Monday morning. It didn’t take long to get the answer to one of the questions that entered the minds of many Philadelphia Eagles fans now that they are starting to calm down from the adrenaline rush some of you may know as Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz.
Ertz will be nursing a displaced rib and McKelvin will try to recover quickly from a hamstring issue. Neither injury will keep either player from missing the entire season, but both are serious enough to have team doctors monitor the progress of each player on a week-to-week basis.
When asked if both could play with the injuries, Pederson advised that doing so could ultimately result in further injury which could put both players on the shelf for an extended period of time. In Ertz’s case, the Eagles head coach stated “when dealing with a displaced bone, You have to be careful”.

It’s hard to tell with both, but Ertz’s injury may have been sustained as the tight end took a shot to the shoulder when he stepped out of bounds after turning upfield following a completion. The injury to McKelvin wasn’t discussed in great detail, but both, ultimately, tried to play a series or two after each injury before leaving the field for the remainder of the game.
We’ll keep you posted on Inside The iggles as further updates become available. We all hope both return sooner than later, as they are important components on both offense and defense.
