J.J. Watt: I'll 'never go' to Super Bowl until I play in one
J.J. Watt still hasn't gotten the taste of defeat out of his mouth, after the Texans were shut out by the Chiefs in the opening game of the playoffs.
Watt, who apologized to fans after his ineffective, injury-plagued performance, is in San Francisco this week for the Super Bowl festivities, but says he won't go to the big game. Not until he plays in it.
"You never get that taste out of your mouth until you get to a Super Bowl, so I'm looking forward to get towards it again. That's why I will never go until I play in one," he said Thursday.
Watt also weighed in on the subject of concussions, which reared its ugly head again this week with the news that former Raiders star Ken Stabler suffered from the brain disease CTE before he died last year.
Watt said the perception that players are "shocked by the concussion news" is not true.
"I know for a fact that every time I go out to practice I am going to hit my head. It's just like a firefighter knows he may have to go into a fire at some point, or a soldier knows he may get shot at some point," Watt said.
And while he won't go to the Super Bowl, he's definitely got a dog in the fight: the Denver Broncos, led by his former coaches in Houston, Gary Kubiak and Wade Phillips.
"I have a lot of respect and a lot of love for them. So I think it would be great if they won one," Watt said.
