Jacksonville Jaguars: Jason Myers is Most Dependable Weapon In 2016
Jason Myers replaced Josh Scobee as the kicker last season for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Myers had a rough beginning but has become Mr. Dependable.
Jason Myers won the kicking job from fan favorite Josh Scobee in 2015. Scobee is the all time leading scorer for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Scobee was the dependable Jaguars kicker since 2014.
Myers’ debut, last season, was against the Carolina Panthers in Jacksonville. He missed his first extra point try. The chants of “Scobee” could be heard emanating from the North end zone stands. He kicked a 22-yard field goal but doubts of his being dependable started to grow.
Myers played college football at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. He spent time in the Arena Football League in 2014. He signed with the Jaguars in 2015 and Scobee was traded away.
Myers finished with twenty six field goals and thirty two extra points last season. His longest field goal was 58 yards against Miami in Week 2. In addition, he had long distance kicks of 53 yards and 51 yards as well.
Jason Myers has worked himself into being a dependable weapon for the Jaguars.
First, Myers has a strong dependable leg for long distance field goals. So far this season, Myers has hit from 55, 54, 52, 50, and from 49 yards twice. Against the Minnesota Vikings he missed his first kick under 50 yards all season.
Second, he has missed only one extra point this season while missing seven last season. In Week 14 of 2015, Myers kicked six of seven extra points against Indianapolis. In week 14 of 2016, he kicked one extra point. Although the Jaguars offense has tanked, Myers has been dependable.
Last, overall fan confidence has grown exponentially in Myers. In the North end zone a voice was heard saying that the Jaguars were moving into field goal range. Last season, fans wondered and predicted misses as Myers lined up to kick an extra point. Myers has become a dependable weapon for the Jaguars.
As the Jaguars offense has become a shade of vanilla and predictable in play calling, Myers has blossomed. Jason Myers is certainly a weapon that Jacksonville and fans recognize as dependable.
