Jaguars RB Denard Robinson struggles in first start of the season
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Denard Robinson's pair of fourth-quarter fumbles highlighted a difficult day in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Robinson, making his first start of the season with T.J. Yeldon out with a knee injury, ran 14 times for 28 yards in the loss. The three-year veteran fumbled twice in the fourth quarter, but was able to recover the ball both times.
“The first time, I was kind of seeing the hole already and tried to snatch away the handoff trying to make a play,” Robinson said. “The second one, the guy punched the ball out. I’ve got to make sure I get the handoffs. It’s my fault. I’ve got to secure the ball.”
With Robinson struggling, quarterback Blake Bortles led Jacksonville in rushing with 44 yards on six carries.
“I’ve got to hit the hole harder and faster and run through arm tackles,” Robinson said. “It was frustrating. I feel like I could contribute to the team way more than I did. I take it to heart right now. I’m my biggest critic. I’ve got to make plays.”
Yeldon, who has started 12 games as rookie this season, was inactive Sunday after being injured in last week's win over the Indianapolis Colts.
