Jaguars safety Cyprien to miss preseason with broken finger

Published Aug. 15, 2015 2:50 p.m. ET

Jacksonville Jaguars safety Johnathan Cyprien will miss the rest of the preseason after breaking a finger against Pittsburgh.

Coach Gus Bradley says Cyprien has a non-displaced fracture in the index finger of his right hand. Cyprien doesn't need surgery and will be in a cast. Bradley says he will be able to practice in a "controlled setting" and hopefully be ready for the Sept. 13 season opener.

Cyprien joins tight end Julius Thomas on the injury list. Thomas broke a bone in the back of his right hand against the Steelers and will miss the remainder of the preseason. Thomas also was placed in a cast and will be limited to walkthroughs the next few weeks.

Bradley adds that defensive end Chris Clemons and safety James Sample are likely to be activated Monday.
