Jamison Crowder Named NFC Special Teams Player Of The Week
Jamison Crowder had a huge punt return on Sunday. As a result, he was named the NFC Special Teams Player Of The Week.
The NFL announced their Players Of The Week on Wednesday morning, and the Washington Redskins once again had a player chosen. Jamison Crowder was named the NFC Special Teams Player Of The Week for his strong effort against the Baltimore Ravens. Crowder is the second Redskins player to win this award this season, joining kicker Dustin Hopkins who won the award in Week 3.

Against the Ravens, Crowder had a return that was critical to the Redskins winning the contest. The second year player fielded a punt with about five minutes left in the first quarter. He brought the kick back 85 yards for a touchdown that gave the Redskins their first score of the day. At the time, Crowder’s return nearly tied up the game. However, the Ravens held a one point advantage due to a missed PAT by Hopkins.
The return was also one of the longest in Redskins history. Since 2006, only Antwaan Randle-El’s 87 yards punt return against the Colts was longer.
After the contest on Sunday, Crowder leads qualified players in the league in average yards per punt return with a mark of 27.7. This was remarkable for the young player considering that he had ranked last in the league coming into the game with an average of 5.3 yards per return. This information comes per CSN Mid-Atlantic’s Rich Tandler.

Crowder’s performance one Sunday is definitely one that the receiver can build upon. He has looked great over the first season plus of his NFL career. If he can continue to improve his elusiveness, he will be an even bigger weapon. He has game breaking potential, and he could be a major threat for the team in 2017. Getting reps on special teams is really good for his development, so expect them to continue. Perhaps he will have another return touchdown before the season is over.
