Jeff Fisher praises 'record-setting' punt team as Rams continue to struggle
The Los Angeles Rams have lost seven of their past eight games, and one of the franchise’s all-time greats Eric Dickerson said he hasn't felt welcome on the sideline. It’s safe to say it’s been a rough few months for head coach Jeff Fisher, who appears to be searching for any bright spot.
On Monday, he pointed to an unusual silver lining to this disastrous first season in the City of Angels.
“We’re on a record-setting pace with our punt team,” Fisher told reporters.
It’s difficult to know exactly what Fisher, who received a two-year extension, is referencing, but punter Johnny Hekker has had three punts of better than 75 yards this season and is leading the league in net punting average at 45.8 yards.
The Rams have been making a push for Hekker to make the Pro Bowl, and even Bill Belichick has praised Hekker’s performance this season.
Whatever the reason, you know it’s been a difficult season when the punting unit is one of the few positives.
