Jerry Rice calls Amari Cooper the 'new Tim Brown'

Published Jul. 29, 2015 11:55 p.m. ET

When Jerry Rice speaks, NFL fans listen. When the G.O.A.T compares current rookie sensation Amari Cooper to one of his old Hall of Famer teammates, Raiders fans should just cheer.

"I think with Cooper, he's very much like Tim Brown," Rice told the team's official website. "Very explosive, got speed to burn."

Rice would know better than most. He teamed up with Brown for three seasons and change on the Raiders, including a Super Bowl run.

But Cooper has a very, very long way to go to catch old No. 81. Brown ended his reign with the Raiders as the sixth-best pass catcher in NFL history, by yards.

Cooper hasn't caught a pass in training camp, let alone an actual game. Rice is still sold, though.

"They have their new Tim Brown," Rice said.
