Jets' Revis on sucker punch: 'I hold both of them responsible'

Published Aug. 12, 2015 12:47 p.m. ET

The New York Jets' season turned on its head in the blink of an eye on Tuesday when quarterback Geno Smith was sucker punched by a teammate in the locker room. As a result, Smith's jaw is broken in two places, requiring surgery, and will miss "at least" six to 10 weeks.

Now, the Jets are left with Ryan Fitzpatrick as their starting quarterback and a whole bunch of questions regarding leadership and team chemistry. Veteran cornerback Darrelle Revis weighed in on the situation, surprisingly saying Smith is responsible, as well.

"I hold both of them responsible," Revis said via the New York Post. "At the same time, you got to move forward. There’s nothing to really harp on no more. … As a team we have to stick together."

No one is happy about the situation, but there's no going back on it now. Smith is out for an extended period of time and the complexion of the Jets' season has changed completely. By Revis saying both are responsible, it's almost as if he's trying to take control of the situation and bring the team together.

Things like this don't happen every day, but the team needs to move past it and get on with the season.
