Jets' Richardson awaits legal process, ruling on suspension

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:09 p.m. ET

New York Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson is eager to find out when he'll be able to play this season, calling the wait to hear whether his four-suspension will be increased a "cloud over my head."

Richardson won't play in the first four regular-season games after being suspended by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He could face an additional suspension from Commissioner Roger Goodell after he was charged with resisting arrest in Missouri on July 14 and not reporting it to the team -- a possible violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy.

His arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 31 in Missouri.

Richardson says this summer has been a "humbling experience" while working with the Jets' backups during training camp and in preseason games.
