Jets to work out QB Josh Johnson on Thursday

The quarterback-needy New York Jets may not be done shopping for a signal caller. The Jets signed Matt Flynn to a one-year deal last week, but he remains injured and his status for the team's next preseason game has yet to be determined.

Consequently, the Jets are working out quarterback Josh Johnson on Thursday, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports 1.

Johnson was cut by the Cincinnati Bengals two days ago and drew interest from the Cleveland Browns initially. He has started just five games in seven seasons since entering the NFL, but he's a dynamic running threat at quarterback. He holds a career average of 6.2 yards per carry but has rushed just 44 times.

It's unlikely Johnson would compete for the starting job as he's probably just an insurance player for the rest of the preseason while the Jets try to remain healthy. Currently, the team has Ryan Fitzpatrick, Matt Flynn, Bryce Petty, and Jake Heaps on the depth chart -- along with the injured Geno Smith.
