John Elway reportedly told Trevor Siemian not to worry about mistakes

Trevor Siemian is just hours from making his first NFL start as the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers kick off the regular season Thursday night. It's fair to assume that Siemian must have a bit of nerves to say the least, but he's been given another vote of confidence from Broncos GM and Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway.

"Just go out and play," Elway told the rookie quarterback, ESPN reported Thursday. "Don't worry about making mistakes. Don't worry about turnovers. You're going to make mistakes. But just bounce back."

Mistakes might become a theme for Siemian, Denver's seventh-round pick a year ago who has yet to throw a pass in a regular-season game. The 24-year-old will begin his career as a starter against a Panthers team that led the league in takeaways in 2015.

Many were surprised when Siemian beat veteran Mark Sanchez and 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch for the starting gig. Now we have to wonder did that decision have more to do with what Siemian did in the preseason or what Sanchez didn't do?

Either way, Elway is giving Siemian a vote of confidence. It'll be curious to see if he changes his tune if Siemian and the defending champs get off to a slow start.
