Johnny Hekker Proves to be a Lone Bright Spot for the Los Angeles Rams
Johnny Hekker continues to be one of the lone stars of the Los Angeles Rams this season.
Once again, Johnny Hekker was one of the lone bright spots for the Los Angeles Rams during their recent loss to the New England Patriots. To put it simply, Hekker has been absolutely amazing this season, and Sunday’s game further solidified the fact.
It is not a common, or a good thing, when a team’s punter is considered one of the most consistent and best players, but that has been the case for Los Angeles all season. Hekker has proven week after week that he deserves to be considered one of the best punters in the game as it was displayed once again on Sunday.
Against the Patriots, Hekker recorded eight punts for a total of 430 yards, an average of 43.8 yards. Those numbers are undeniably staggering as Hekker also had yet another game in which he had a punt over 70 yards, his third of the season.
Not only does Hekker currently rank first in the NFL for net punting, but punts inside the 20 as well. With these numbers, it’s obvious Hekker deserves consideration for being one of the Rams’ biggest weapons since he’s consistently placing the opposing team’s offense in bad field position.
It’s a complete shame that Los Angeles is wasting this terrific statistical season from Hekker when considering they’ve lost seven of their last eight games following a 3-1 start. For many longtime fans of the Rams, this has become a common occurrence.
Hekker has proven year after year that no matter how bad the team plays, he won’t follow suite. While punters are often overlooked for their importance to the game, Hekker’s play shouldn’t be.
He may not be looked at in the same light as Aaron Donald or Todd Gurley, but make no mistake about it, Hekker is one of the best players for the Los Angeles this season.
