Julian Edelman Dealing With Foot Issues?

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was added to the team’s injury report after practice on Thursday.

Julian Edelman was listed as a limited participant with a foot injury. While it’s difficult to surmise whether this is the result of an injury sustained in practice or simply a rest day for Edelman, his appearance on the injury report is concerning given his past foot issues. The team did not specify which foot is giving Edelman trouble.

A favorite target of Tom Brady over recent seasons, Edelman underwent surgery last year for a Jones fracture in his foot that he suffered during a November tilt against the New York Giants. He would go on to miss the second-half of the 2015 campaign but returned for the team’s playoff run.

After having another surgery on his foot in the offseason, Edelman began training camp on the team’s PUP list but has appeared in all four games for the Patriots so far this season. His 19 receptions lead the team.

Along with Edelman, the following Patriots were also listed as limited participants in Thursday’s workout:

Running back Brandon Bolden (knee), linebacker Shane McClellin (concussion), defensive lineman Vincent Valentine (back) and tackle Marcus Cannon (calf) did not participate in Thursday’s practice.

Edelman missing any extended amount of time could deal a serious blow to New England’s Super Bowl aspirations this year. The eighth-year man out of Kent State has become a key contributor in the team’s pass-heavy offense and is especially adept at grinding out tough yards after the catch–usually in the teeth of opposing defenses over the middle.

The Patriots will hold another workout today, followed by a final injury report for the week.
