Kaepernick gets 'reality check' at 'Against All Odds' golf tournament
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick hosted his third annual “Against All Odds” golf tournament for Camp Taylor. Camp Taylor is a place for kids battling heart issues, it provides the children with camp activities despite some of their health issues.
“It really is a reality check, every time I’m around these kids,” Kaepernick said at Del Rio Country Club, via Mercury News. “We have kids that go through so many different things, and they have struggles that I have no idea about and have never been through, personally.
“But they walk around with smiles on their faces, and they’re running around having a good time. It helps me realize how blessed I’ve been.”
Kaepernick had teammates of past and present join him for the event. Just some of the names include Aldon Smith, Ricardo Lockette, and Dontae Johnson.
“They were happy to come out and more than willing to show their support,” Kaepernick said.
Kaepernick values his experience at the camp and is something he has done every year since joining the NFL.
“It’s been an amazing experience working with Camp Taylor,” Kaepernick said. “It’s been something that’s helped me grow as a person and helped me become a better person.”
Kaepernick went on to say that this tournament differs from other golf tournaments in that you actually get to interact with all the kids. You get to see where your money is going and how it is helping.
“That’s one of the great things about this golf tournament and Camp Taylor,” Kaepernick said. “It’s not just another charity event, where you just see pictures and say, ‘Hey, donate to this charity.’ You actually get to see the kids and the families and the lives people are helping to change.”
