Kansas City Chiefs are firing on all cylinders, but will it last?

The Kansas City Chiefs have won eight of their last 10 games, but will the hot streak continue into the postseason?

What a different tune the entire Chiefs Kingdom is singing now that the Kansas City Chiefs are 10-3 with the postseason, and possible division title in sight. It was a few months ago that this team would play well one week and like dog poop the next. However, the team that most people wrote off early in 2016, are now surging and winning games at the right time.

The Chiefs win; although not always pretty, three turnovers in Arrowhead against the Oakland Raiders, but they win. One interesting stat that analysts keep talking about is how the team’s defense and special teams have accounted for 49 percent of KC’s points. One of the best defensive groups, the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, only had those areas account for 46.5 percent of total points.

So what has changed over the last few weeks and how has this team, that many people had falling flat, seemingly turn around. Well, a lot can be said about head coach Andy Reid, and General Manager John Dorsey.

Reid, does have some questionable calls on the field at times. Many conversations have been had with my brother about what Andy was thinking calling this or that play at any given moment. But despite the questionable calls, Reid knows how to develop a game plan. For instance, the game last week against the Raiders should have been a slaughter by statistical standards. No team wins a football game with a minus three in the turnover column, period. It was in those moments of panic in Chiefs Kingdom that Reid and company kept calm and just played their game, and it worked!

General manager John Dorsey also needs to be given some credit for what the team is doing right now. Somehow through foresight he has put together a team for Reid and his coaches that just plain works. Who knew about Terrance Mitchell other that the coaches and Dorsey? So what does he do? He helps seal the victory for the Chiefs with a pass defended on fourth down. John knows players and it is only showing more and more often as players come out of seemingly nowhere to be contributors for this team.

So the Chiefs are hot. They are getting healthy at the right time with only cornerback Phillip Gaines listed on the injury report. The ceiling right now is set super high for this team with many people quietly whispering Super Bowl right now, but can they stay there?

This weekend the Chiefs welcome a good football team, The Tennessee Titans, who are playing some of their best football as well, they did just take down the defending champs Denver last weekend. If the Chiefs beat the Titans then they’re in the playoffs, if I’m not mistaken.

The Chiefs then face Denver at home and finish with San Diego on the road. No game in the NFL is a sure victory, unless you’re playing the Browns (Sorry Cleveland).

Right now the Kansas City Chiefs are, perhaps, the best team in the NFL. They may not always win pretty or with the most points, but they find ways to win. Right now they are playing some of the best football this team has played in the last few years. So will it last? Maybe. Any given Sunday things can happen, injuries can occur, turnovers can happen, but right now for the Kansas City Chiefs they are on fire.
