Keenan Allen Injury Update: ACL Tear Feared for Chargers Receiver

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen was carted off the field in the second quarter of their game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a feared ACL injury

The injury bug seems to have bitten San Diego Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen again in a big way. In the second quarter of the Chargers first game of the season against the Kansas City Chiefs, Allen’s leg appeared to buckle as he went out for a pass pattern. Allen needed to be carted off the field and will not return.

Since coming into the league in 2013, Allen has yet to play a full 16-game season, and it appears that trend will continue in 2016.

Preliminary reports from Alex Marvez of Sirius XM NFL seem to point towards the worst. Marvez is reporting that the Chargers internally suspect their talented wide receiver has torn his ACL. Such an injury would obviously cause him to miss the remainder of the 2016 season.

If the reports are accurate, this comes as a huge blow to both Allen and the San Diego Chargers, as Allen was poised to have a huge season. Allen was playing in his first game since missing the final eight games of the 2015 season with a lacerated kidney. Before going down last season, Allen was poised to have a monster year and was looking to carry that momentum into the new season.

We’ll learn more in the coming days when Allen undergoes all of the official exams and testing. But for right now it looks like the talented young receiver has lost yet another season to an injury.
