Kelly declines to rule out linebacker Alonso for Sunday's game

Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly clarified the injury to Kiko Alonso on Wednesday and surprisingly did not rule out the inside linebacker for Sunday's game at the New York Jets.

One day after Eagles defensive coordinator Billy Davis said he did not expect Alonso to play amid reports that he has a partially torn ligament in his surgically repaired left knee, Kelly said Alonso is dealing with a sprain and left the door open for him to play Sunday.

"We're evaluating him to see what he can and can't do," Kelly said. "I don't know that he'll be out this week."

Alonso, who was acquired in an offseason trade with the Buffalo Bills in exchange for running back LeSean McCoy, missed the entire 2014 season after tearing his left ACL in the summer.

Philadelphia is already thin at inside linebacker with Mychal Kendricks expected to miss Sunday's game due to a hamstring injury. Defensive end Cedric Thornton has already been ruled out with a broken bone in his hand while defensive end Taylor Hart (shoulder) also sat out Wednesday's practice.
