Kicker Blair Walsh opens up about future with Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh knows he has to bounce back after missing nine field-goal attempts last season. The 2015 season is a contract year for Walsh, so he must make haste on his way to a comeback.
"I would love to stay a Viking. This is the team that drafted me and put that faith in me to be an NFL kicker," Walsh told Matt Vensel of the Star-Tribune. "But at the same time, I’ve had a Pro Bowl year here, I’ve had success and there’s been a lot of long attempts that we’ve made, so the numbers are going to have to be right for both of us. But when it comes down to it, I hope I can stay with the Vikings."
Minnesota selected Walsh in the sixth-round of the 2012 draft, and his impact was immediate. As a rookie, he made all 10 of his attempts from beyond 50 yards out and was named All-Pro.
Walsh told the Star-Tribune that there has been "a little bit of communication" in terms of a contract extension, but the 2014 season must first be proved a fluke before the kicker can sign that coveted new deal.
