The Minnesota Vikings have decided to move on from kicker Blair Walsh, as it has been announced that the struggling specialist was released by the team.

Just when it appeared as though the Minnesota Vikings were going to finish out the 2016 NFL season with Blair Walsh as their kicker, the team decided to make a big move and release the struggling specialist.

Despite there being few other options out there for the team, ESPN insider Adam Schefter sent out a tweet reporting that a team source has confirmed that the Vikings time with Walsh has come to an end.

Here is the tweet from well-respected NFL insider Adam Schefter on Twitter announcing the transaction:

While the move seems to have come out of nowhere, the transaction shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Wash was at the bottom of the league in extra point accuracy and had missed multiple field goals this season.

More from The Viking Age

After a rookie season where Walsh broke multiple kicking records for the Minnesota Vikings, he struggled in a major way the last couple of seasons and become more of a liability than an asset for the team.

At this time, there is no announcement as to who the Vikings are going to bring in to replace Walsh as the team’s kicker, but odds are the team has been in contact with the player who will be brought in before the week 11 game against the Cardinals.

As always, The Viking Age will keep you up to date when a kicker is signed, but in the meantime the position will be vacant.

We at The Viking Age would like to wish Blair Walsh the best of luck on his NFL career going forward. Walsh has shown the ability to be a top caliber kicker in the league during his rookie year, so there is hope he can return to his rookie form. Best of luck to him in all of his future endeavors.
