Kiko Alonso: 'I'm Loving Philadelphia So Far'
After being named the NFL's 2013 Defensive Rookie of the Year by the Pro Football Writer's Association, the last thing linebacker Kiko Alonso expected was that he would be traded. When it happened so abruptly, it naturally caught him by surprise.
“I was very surprised,” Alonso told Angelo Cataldi during his debut interview on 94WIP on Friday morning. “I couldn’t imagine getting traded, but you know it’s a business and wherever I go I’m gonna give it all I got and that’s all I could really do at the end of the day.
Now that he has had time to get accustomed to his new home, he couldn't be happier.
“I’m stoked,” Alonso said. “I’m loving Philadelphia so far, and can’t wait to get to work.”
Alonso missed the entire 2014 season due to an early injury, but he was one of the best linebackers in football in his rookie season. He racked up 159 tackles and four interceptions. Alonso will compete with Mychal Kendricks and DeMeco Ryans to earn one the Eagles' two starting inside linebacker spots. If he proves to be fully recovered, he's the heavy favorite to begin the season as a starter.
