Kirk Cousins, Josh Norman Snubbed In Pro Bowl Vote

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 6:31 p.m. ET

The Washington Redskins were honored with a few Pro Bowl selections, but Kirk Cousins and Josh Norman were not on the list.

The NFL Pro-Bowl rosters were released on Tuesday night, and the results were somewhat surprising. The Washington Redskins did have a few players on the roster, but their stars were not featured. Neither Kirk Cousins nor Josh Norman made it onto the initial team, and it is surprising to say the least.

Cousins has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this season. He ranks second in the league in passing yards with 4,360. He ranks 11th in the league with 23 total passing touchdowns, and he has completed 67.5 percent of his passes. That is good for fifth best in the league.

In addition to his great statistical performance, Cousins has established himself as a leader for the Redskins team. After a poor start to the year, he really stepped up and played some of the best football of his career. He took responsibility for the 0-2 start and from there, really helped to lead the team to success.

It was clear that Cousins was one of the most improved quarterbacks in the NFL this year. In 2015, he was a very good starter, but this year he emerged as borderline elite. He proved that he is one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, and definitely deserved the Pro Bowl nod. The fact that he did not is a disrespect to him. I would say that he had a better resume than Dak Prescott, but perhaps I am just biased.

In terms of the cornerbacks, Josh Norman’s snub is more acceptable. Norman has been terrific for the Redskins, but he did not post as impressive of a stat line as some of the nominated corners. Patrick Peterson, Xavier Rhodes, Janoris Jenkins, and Richard Sherman have all had strong numbers, and Norman probably did not make it because he had just one interception. He is probably going to be a top alternate.

Overall, this was a tough day for Cousins and Norman. Both had a case to get a Pro-Bowl nod, but neither got it. As players decide whether or not to participate, expect Cousins and Norman to get an offer to play.
