Kubiak: Vernon Davis 'going to play' Sunday for Broncos vs. Colts

Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said Friday that new tight end Vernon Davis will play during Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Speaking to reporters, the coach expressed his eagerness to get the tight end involved in the game plan on Sunday.

“He’s going, he’s going to play, I feel very good about the things we’ve asked him to do this week,’’ Kubiak said, per Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com. “Hopefully, he’ll be a big part.”

Kubiak also made it clear he’s going to do his best to make sure Davis isn’t put into a position where he isn’t comfortable. He noted the tight end “hasn’t left the building” since he first arrived.

Davis himself believes it’s been a productive week of learning and integrating himself into what Denver is already doing offensively. He says he’s “just ready to go out and help win some games.’’

We know this will not necessarily come naturally for Davis, who recently said he’d need to “get acclimated” to winning again after a couple of down years in San Francisco.

Since his 2013 campaign when he caught 13 touchdowns, Davis has been almost invisible within San Francisco’s offense. The past season-and-a-half with the 49ers, he has caught just 44 passes for 439 yards and two touchdowns.

Perhaps an upgrade at the quarterback position, and a fresh start with a new team that has a winning culture, will do him some good.
