Larry Fitzgerald grabs his first touchdown of 2016 NFL season (Video)
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald grabbed his first touchdown of the 2016 season with a three-yard catch against the New England Patriots.
Rumor has it that Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald could be retiring at the end of the 2016 NFL season. If that is the case, the Cardinals will have a lot to play for and so will Fitzgerald.
He got his 2016 season off to a strong start with a three-yard touchdown grab against the New England Patriots. Carson Palmer got him the ball quickly and Fitzgerald was able to sneak into the end zone for the three-yard score.
If Fitzgerald is retiring after the 2016 season, the NFL will be losing an excellent receiver and a wonderful man. Fitzgerald has led the NFL in receptions once and touchdown catches twice during his stellar NFL career. He has seven seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards.
Whenever Fitzgerald retires, he will retire as the Cardinals’ leading receiver of all-time. He joined the Cardinals after being drafted with the third overall pick of the 2004 NFL Draft. Fitzgerald went to the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a Heisman Trophy finalist after an impressive sophomore season.
Over his career, Fitzgerald has 1,018 receptions for 13,366 yards and 98 touchdowns entering the game against the Patriots. With his touchdown, he is now just one touchdown away from 100 career touchdowns. Fitzgerald has been very active in the Arizona community as well as the Minnesota community because he’s originally from Minnesota.
Expect the Cardinals to try their best to get Fitzgerald a ring before he retires. Fans saw the same thing with Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis. The Ravens got inspired by his retirement and wound up winning him one more Super Bowl in 2013. Perhaps the Cardinals will be motivated similarly to get arguably their best player ever a Super Bowl ring.
