Larry Fitzgerald reveals how Packers-Cowboys inspired him to return for 2017

Going out on top is a sports dream — one which Larry Fitzgerald plans to chase in 2017.

After a bit of speculation about his status for next season, the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver decided to hold off retirement for at least one more year. And earlier this week, he told The Arizona Republic he was inspired to return next season by the epic NFC Divisional Round matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers.

While watching the Packers beat the Cowboys 34-31 in the playoffs on Jan. 15, Fitzgerald said he felt “the fire was burning. If I was completely detached from it, I wouldn’t have cared. It wouldn’t have meant anything for me.”

“I’m a year removed from being in a game like this, that’s competitive,” Fitzgerald said, referring to the Packers-Cowboys game. “I got David Johnson. I got Patrick Peterson. I got Tyrann Mathieu, Chandler Jones.

“All these super-talented guys coming back on this team. I can’t go out on 7-8-1. That’s not how I want to do it. With the combination of those, and my body feeling much, much better now, is probably what made me feel the way I do.”
