LB Daryl Smith signing one-year deal with Bucs

Linebacker Daryl Smith is headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a one-year deal, FOX Sports' Peter Schrager has confirmed.

Smith, 34, was released following three seasons with Baltimore after playing his first nine in Jacksonville. He's started 172 of 174 career games, including all 16 in six of the past seven seasons. He topped 120 combined tackles each season with the Ravens and added three sacks last year.

Smith has been one of the most productive linebackers for the past decade. He has 1,046 tackles since he entered the NFL in 2004, the sixth-most by any player in that span. He and Karlos Dansby are the only players with 1,000 or more tackles and 30 or more sacks in that span.

Smith is expected to compete with Pro Bowler Lavonte David and Kwon Alexander for a starting job. He's the latest offseason addition for the Bucs, who also signed offensive lineman J.R. Sweezy, cornerbacks Brent Grimes and Josh Robinson and defensive end Robert Ayers, along with resigning running back Doug Martin and cornerback Chris Conte.
