Lions' Warford, Reid suffer ankle injuries in preseason action

The Detroit Lions lost two major contributors in the trenches during Thursday night's preseason loss to the Washington Redskins. Defensive tackle Caraun Reid and right guard Larry Warford both suffered ankle injuries and left the game during the first quarter, according to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.

Lions head coach Jim Caldwell did not have an update on the severity of their injuries, nor did he have a timetable for either player's return, according to Jennifer Hammond of WJBK Fox 2 Detroit.

The Lions can hardly afford to lose either of these players for an extended period of time. Warford, a third-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft, might be the team's best offensive lineman. Former fifth-rounder Caraun Reid, on the other hand, has shown tremendous improvement next to Tyrunn Walker with Haloti Ngata on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
