Lions WR Golden Tate had this season's best TD celebration
Detroit Lions receiver Golden Tate had been off to a slow start this season, but when he finally got things rolling Sunday, he knew how to make the most of it.
Tate had a season-high eight catches for 165 yards in the Lions’ 31-28 win against the Los Angeles Rams, but it was his first touchdown reception of the season that prompted a unique celebration.
He caught a 23-yard scoring pass from Matthew Stafford with 6:02 left in the fourth quarter, then headed to the sideline, grabbed some pom-poms from a Lions cheerleader and joined her group in their post-score dance.
“I was going back to the sideline, and I just saw these new cheerleaders, and I figured, hey, why not party with them for a little bit,” Tate said after the game. “I do remember (former teammate) Richard Sherman doing it in Seattle, and I just thought it was hilarious, but that wasn’t what I was thinking about when I did it. It just kind of happened, and I was just having fun, having a lot of fun.”
Tate, who had 2,144 receiving yards in his first two years with the Lions, didn’t have more than 41 receiving yards in a game before busting loose Sunday.
