Look For Tyrann Mathieu in the Slot Thursday Night
Arizona Cardinals star defensive back Tyrann Mathieu doesn’t like the way his team started the season. So he is looking to take things upon himself to try to change the way this season is going for the Cardinals.
The Arizona Cardinals were blown out in the NFC Championship Game last season. They were blown by the Carolina Panthers 49-15 so they probably spent this offseason plotting revenge. But things don’t look so great for the Panthers, who are now 1-3.
The Cardinals are finding themselves in the midst of a slow start as well. After losing a defensive struggle to the Los Angeles Rams 17-13, their record fell to 1-3. Playoff berths don’t happen in October, one month into the season, but the Cardinals have to fix things now.
When things aren’t working, your stars usually do whatever they have to do to fix things. And versatile safety Tyrann Mathieu wants to move back to slot corner. He was as a Defensive Player of the Year candidate last season as a slot corner last year.
He could cover whoever you want to line up in the slot or he could blitz. But after having a season-ending ACL injury this past December, head coach Bruce Arians wanted to ease him back in. So Mathieu played only safety to start the year.
Tyvon Branch took over the slot cover role to start the 2016 season. But Mathieu doesn’t want to fall too far in the standings so he wants his old slot corner role back. He feels like he’s ready to make a difference this Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers.
We’ll see what happens!
