LSU RB Leonard Fournette Makes Best Decision

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 8:30 p.m. ET

Leonard Fournette decided to be smart about going into the 2017 NFL Draft.

LSU running back Leonard Fournette has worn a Tigers uniform for the last time. He announced on Friday that he won’t play in the Citrus Bowl vs Louisville on Dec. 31. He and head coach Ed Orgeron decided this because of his injured ankle.

That ankle has bothered him for quite some time now, causing him to miss four games this season. So his numbers are way down from his big 2015 season. He just announced earlier this month that he fully intends to enter the 2017 NFL Draft.

Fournette also said he won’t need a procedure for his ankle but will need rest and rehab. He estimated his ankle is currently at about 85-90 percent right now. So the rest and rehab will start now so he can get ready for the NFL Scouting Combine etc.

Fournette is a phenomenal talent many compare to legends Bo Jackson and Adrian Peterson. So there is no reason for him to risk his draft status for a meaningless Bowl game. Remember what happened to former Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith.

LSU fans that think he’s letting them and the school down need to stop thinking. Derrius Guice, who is filling in for him, has out produced Fournette all year so a new star is already born. LSU has Guice for at least another year so let Fournette chase his dream.

It would be an absolute tragedy if an injury cause him to fall out of the first round of the draft!
