Luck returns to practice, won't play against Texans

Published Dec. 16, 2015 2:30 p.m. ET

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Andrew Luck did limited work at practice Wednesday but will not play on Sunday against Houston.

Colts coach Chuck Pagano said his quarterback did limited work on the field, but ruled him out as he recovers from a lacerated kidney and a partially torn abdominal muscle.

The announcement means both teams will start backup quarterbacks in this key matchup. Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Brian Hoyer would miss the game with a concussion.

The Colts (6-7) could be in even worse shape.

Matt Hasselbeck, who is 4-2 as Luck's replacement, did not practice Wednesday because of a rib injury and appeared to have his left arm immobilized. If Hasselbeck can't play, the Colts would likely start Charlie Whitehurst.
