Made for TVs: Chargers' Johnson strikes TD connection with students

Stevie Johnson is quickly endearing himself to fans in his first season with the San Diego Chargers.

The eighth-year wide receiver had a successful debut with the Chargers, hauling in six catches for 82 yards and a touchdown in San Diego's come-from-behind victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Two days later, Johnson gave students at San Diego State University a chance to put together a highlight reel of their own. All they had to do was catch a 20-yard TD pass from Johnson to win either a free Smart TV or Sound Stand.

The fourth-year promotion, part of VIZIO's annual Touchdown for TVs marketing campaign, drew hundreds of would-be receivers for the event that was held for the first time at SDSU. None of them may be NFL-ready, but there was plenty of success stories - more than $30,000 in electronic equipment was given away during the event.

The program, designed to give back to both fans and Boys and Girls Clubs of America, will be expanding thanks to Johnson, who has recruited fellow NFL players Roddy White, Jonathan Stewart and Kenny Stills to participate in the campaign.
