Marcus Peters injury update: Chiefs star leaves Week 15

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 2:52 p.m. ET

Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters suffered an injury on Sunday that caused fans in Arrowhead nation to hold their breath.

With one slip on the grass, Chiefs fans are hoping their season isn’t over. A team that was ravaged by injuries early in the season suffered a blow that would put their Super Bowl hopes in doubt if it ends up being serious.

In the third quarter of an ice cold game against the Titans, Marcus Peters slipped on the grass and immediately grabbed for his leg. He was able to hobble off the field but the imagery didn’t instill Chiefs fans with a lot of confidence.

While no immediate word is yet known about Peters’ status, it appears that he might just have a pulled muscle. Trainers helping Peters on the sideline were attending to his hamstring, which meant it wasn’t a knee injury — something that Chiefs fans were hoping wouldn’t be the case.

There’s still the matter of finding out how hurt Peters actually is. He was seen giving thumbs up to coaches on the sideline, but that’s not a guarantee he’ll be alright to return. Kansas City can clinch a playoff spot on Sunday with a win, and Peters is an essential part of their defense. Next to Eric Berry, Peters is a cog that can’t be replaced on a defensive unit already missing Derrick Johnson for the rest of the season.

Peters appears to be alright, but there’s absolutely no reason for the Chiefs to rush him back when the long term goal is so much more important than one game.
