Marcus Peters losing ground with absence from Chiefs practice

Kansas City still hasn't seen what their first-round pick looks like in red and gold.

Per NFL rules, Marcus Peters can't report to his new team until his final academic term ends. So, while other Chiefs rookies are gaining valuable practice time at OTAs, Peters is stuck in football limbo at the University of Washington.

"You just hope they can get as many reps when they come back to the mandatory camp as they can," defensive coordinator Bob Sutton told ESPN. "And it’s just the way it is."

It doesn't benefit anyone that Peters has to wait. It's already an uphill battle for rookie cornerbacks to contribute. Now, he'll have to face the added pressure of starting his season much later than his contemporaries around the league.

Philip Gaines and Marcus Cooper continue to fill in for Peters at practice. The rookie will be eligible to return for full-squad minicamp in two weeks.
