Minnesota Vikings WR Charles Johnson not sweating Wallace, Patterson hype

Charles Johnson finished the 2014 season as the Minnesota Vikings' hottest wide receiver. A former seventh-round selection who bounced from the Green Bay Packers and the Cleveland Browns before landing with the Vikings, Johnson caught 31 passes for 475 yards and two touchdowns last season.

However, as Johnson enters his second season with the team, the spotlight is pointed elsewhere in Minnesota's receiving corps. That's because trade acquisition Mike Wallace and 2013 first-round selection Cordarrelle Patterson have usurped most of the attention.

Johnson isn't bothered with the lack of hype surrounding him this offseason.

"I don’t really play into the hype,’" Johnson said, per Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. "Mike Wallace is a great talent. Cordarrelle Patterson is a great talent, and they’re both two tremendous guys who are going to help us win games this season. I mean, they’re going to be talked about."

Johnson makes a valid point. Wallace and Patterson are major variables in the Vikings' search for a winning formula. Half a season of success alone won't win a player headlines; being a former first-round pick or the subject of a blockbuster trade will.
