Mixed bag for Tennessee Titans in Matt Miller's 2017 nfl mock draft
Matt Miller of Bleacher Report, is great at providing constant insight into the college scouting process throughout the regular season, and he escalates that even farther when the offseason comes around. Today, he put out his 2017 NFL Mock Draft and here are my thoughts on his picks for the Tennessee Titans.
(I will mention players I would have taken instead, but go to the actual article to see which players were off the board.)
1st round, pick 6: Jalen Tabor CB, Florida
This pick makes a ton of sense for the Titans, and he fits exactly what they evaluate on the field. He has racked up a lot of stats and when teams run the same things over and over again he can jump routes and make splash plays.
For me, I don’t think he is a first round corner for a few reasons. First of all, he has missed games in each of the last two seasons for team suspensions for different reasons. Last year he missed for missing/skipping a drug test and this year he was held out after getting into a fight with a teammate.
Secondly, he is almost always one of the last guys to the ball and he only had 16 solo tackles all of last year. For comparison, Desmond King had 30 last year and already has 8 this year.
He has also always played behind a very stacked and aggressive defense and rarely jumped out when playing big games, despite being opposite a corner who did that for years in Vernon Hargreaves.

Who I would have picked: Marlon Humphrey CB, Alabama
If you haven’t watched Humphrey do yourself a favor and go check out any game he has played in over the last two years. He has either made an interception or huge hit in any game, and that was just when the quarterback had the courage/stupidity to test him.
He is listed at 6’1 and he is the long, explosive type player that this Tennessee secondary needs.

Round 1, pick 8: Jamal Adams S, LSU
I am completely fine with this pick. Adams is a tone setter in the outside run/screen game and he is going to be the perfect Polamalu clone in this defense. I honestly have no issue with this. If I was forced to go in another direction, I would probably look very hard at Jarrad Davis from Florida, or Reuben Foster from Alabama.
Both of them are rangy linebackers who fit that Lawrence Timmons/Ryan Shazier mold and when they get square with you, you are going to feel them when they hit you (and likely for the next few days after).
I think the Titans ultimately end up trading one of these picks, but in a draft so heavy with top-end defensive talent I expect the secondary and/or front seven to get a huge boost in the first round and if the price is right they could completely retool this defense with young top-end talent.
Imagine Marcus Mariota and this offense next year with a defense that can force turnovers and intimidate the AFC South.
