New Bears staff still 'getting to know' Jay Cutler
Jay Cutler shouldered much of the blame for the Chicago Bears' struggles in 2014, which led to a complete overhaul of both the front office and coaching staff this offseason. The new staff, led by head coach John Fox, is now figuring out whether the Bears can win with Cutler at quarterback.
"We’re getting to know him, he’s getting to know us," Fox said, via John Mullin of CSN Chicago. "He’s worked at it hard on everything we’ve asked and we’ll just keep evaluating these game-type conditions."
The Bears held a scrimmage over the weekend in which the first-team offense went head-to-head with the second-team defense. Without starting running back Matt Forte and wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White, Cutler's offense mustered a mere 26 yards on 11 plays by Mullin's unofficial count.
Perhaps more important than yardage at the moment, Cutler was able to avoid turning the ball over in the scrimmage. Last season, he turned the ball over 24 times (18 interceptions, six fumbles). So far this summer, Cutler has been turnover-free in all 7-on-7 and "team" sessions, according to CSN Chicago.
