New Bucs K Nick Folk won't help Roberto Aguayo too much: 'I have a family to feed'

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded up to draft Roberto Aguayo in the second round last year, a move that was questioned by everyone outside Western Florida. After one season, it looks like an even worse decision than it did when they made it.

Aguayo struggled mightily, making just 22 of 31 field goal attempts, while also missing two extra points. His performance was so poor that it led the Bucs to bring in competition in the form of Nick Folk.

The former Cowboys and Jets veteran plans to help Aguayo out, but not too much.

“I can hopefully get [Aguyo] going a little bit in the NFL world,” Folk said, via Joe Bucs Fan. “I had a great guy to learn from in Martin [Gramatica] my rookie year [in Dallas]. I kind of picked things off of him just sitting and watching. I mean, hopefully, I can show [Aguayo] a few things, not too many, because I have a family to feed.”

Folk was brought in to push Aguayo with the possibility that he could eventually take his job. That would be worst-case scenario because that would mean Aguayo would have been unable to beat out a guy he easily should.

That’s not to say Folk is a bad kicker, but Aguayo was clearly believed to be elite, to the point where the Bucs spent a premium pick on him.

“It’s going to be a good year for [the Bucs],” Folk said. I have a feeling.”
