Despite struggling in Denver last season, the New England Patriots were able to grind out a win against the Broncos on Sunday.
As expected, it wasn’t pretty in Denver. The Broncos still have a very good defense, and they were able to keep the high-powered Patriots offense in check. A few costly turnovers by the Broncos resulted in points for the Patriots.
Credit has to go to the Patriots defense in this win. Even though the Broncos don’t have an explosive offense, the Patriots defense was able to shut them down throughout the game. Beating the Broncos is a huge confidence boost for the Patriots, as they were able to get revenge from the two losses last season.
3 Stars of the game:
Logan Ryan, Patriots: When the game was still close early on, Logan Ryan had arguably the biggest play of the game. An interception in the red zone not only kept the Broncos from scoring, but the return set up the Patriots for points on the other side of the field.
Dion Lewis, Patriots: While many were expecting a big game from LeGarrette Blount on Sunday, it was instead Dion Lewis who torched the Broncos run defense. Lewis was able to total 95 rushing yards, but Blount did find the end zone for the Patriots.
Trey Flowers, Patriots: One of the differences in the game was the pass rush of the Patriots on the Broncos. Led by two sacks by Trey Flowers, the Patriots were able to bother Trevor Siemian throughout the game.
