New York Jets: Joe Namath Apologizes to Geno Smith
Former New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath had harsh words for Geno Smith about his toughness following a knee injury.
The New York Jets were able to win their second game of the season against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. However, it cost them their quarterback Geno Smith. In the second quarter, Smith was sacked and had his leg twisted awkwardly.
After leaving the game, Smith went to the locker room where the decision was made to keep him out for the rest of the game. Smith did return to the sideline in street clothes, but he took some criticism about his toughness.
Former Jets quarterback Joe Namath took to Twitter to slam Smith about his toughness.
Smith really did a nice job not going after Namath about the tweet, as he handled it perfectly.
On Monday, Smith underwent an MRI to see if there was anything severely wrong with his knee. Original reports were that the Jets didn’t expect it to be serious, but it turned out that Smith tore his ACL.
After hearing the news, Namath went back on Twitter to apologize to Smith and to wish him well on his recovery.
@GenoSmith7 My bad Geno. In the dark ages we players had the say. I hope you heal and play as long as you choose! Joe

This is certainly a tough blow for Smith, who was being given the chance to prove what he could do as a quarterback in the NFL. In all likelihood, Smith’s career with the Jets will be done, and he will have a long recovery ahead.
Time will tell whether or not Smith can be a starter in the NFL, but we likely won’t see him given another chance with the Jets.
