New York Jets: Sammy Watkins Injury Helps Week 2 Chances
The New York Jets suffered a tough loss against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1. With a short week coming, they might be catching a huge break against the Buffalo Bills.
Like the New York Jets, the Buffalo Bills suffered a tough loss in Week 1 to the Baltimore Ravens. In addition to losing to the Ravens, the Bills also saw their best wide receiver suffer a foot injury.
Early indications are not good for Sammy Watkins who could be missing multiple weeks with discomfort in his foot. Due to the possible severity of the injury, the Jets might not be seeing him on Thursday night in uniform.
In the loss to the Bengals, there was a clear issue for the Jets defense. Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green was an unstoppable force and one of the main reasons why the Jets are 0-1. In the win, Green totaled 12 receptions, 180 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown.
Green did a lot of that damage against Darrelle Revis, who did not look good at all. Going back to last season, Revis has struggled against No.1 wide receivers, and that is exactly what Green and Watkins are.
Against the Ravens, Watkins was the leading receiver for the Bills, as he totaled four receptions and 43 receiving yards. Without Watkins, the Bills’ passing offense is going to struggle. Due to a lack of talent at wide receiver, the Jets should have no problem shutting down the passing game. The possible absence of Watkins should allow the Jets to focus on stopping the run, and tight end Charles Clay.

Against the Ravens, the Bills’ offense clearly wasn’t very effective and that should be a good sign for the Jets in Week 2. Prior to the injury to Watkins, the Jets were at big disadvantage having to play on the road against a division opponent in Week 2.
Everyone will remember what the Bills did to the Jets last season, and they surely would love to continue that in 2016. The Week 17 loss to the Jets last season in Buffalo has not been forgotten in New York. In that game, Watkins was one of the main reasons for the upset win. In the final week of the season, Watkins totaled 11 receptions and 136 receiving yards.
Furthermore, due to the apparent struggles of Revis against Green in Week 1, the Jets are catching a huge break if Watkins is out. Finally, in a very important game for the Jets and their playoff hopes, Week 2 has become a much easier game to win.
