NFL announces Pro Bowl will remain in Orlando with one key change

The NFL made a few changes to the Pro Bowl this past season, moving the location from Hawaii to Orlando. It also reverted to the traditional NFC-vs.-AFC format with a Skills Showdown also added to the slate.

On Wednesday, the league announced that after a “successful first year” in Orlando, the Pro Bowl will be returning to the family-friendly city.

"The Pro Bowl is not only a time to watch NFL greats compete live, but it is also a unique opportunity to inspire youth and the next generation of stars," said Peter O'Reilly, NFL Senior Vice President of Events. "We received tremendous feedback from players, coaches, and fans about Orlando's first Pro Bowl, and we are excited to build upon that enthusiasm with a week-long festival that celebrates the entire football community."

Not many changes are being made to the format – it’ll remain AFC vs. NFC – but kickoff has been moved up a few hours to 3 p.m. ET. NFL legends will also continue to be honorary captains representing each conference.

As for the Skills Showdown, which was a hit with fans this past year, it will remain in the mix by “testing the athletic prowess of All-Stars from each conference in unique competitions.” Some of the challenges included an accuracy competition, drone drop, and best of all, dodgeball.

Some players liked the decision to move the festivities to Orlando because of its family-friendly nature, but others enjoyed the week in Hawaii, which was more of a vacation.
