NFL Week 5 injury roundup: Steve Smith, Cody Kessler sidelined
In their fifth game of the season, the Browns turned to their fourth quarterback.
Rookie Cody Kessler left Sunday’s game against the Patriots with an apparent shoulder injury and was replaced by Terrelle Pryor.
Kessler was driven to the turf by Rob Ninkovich and hit the ground hard. To make things worse, Kessler’s backward pass wound up turning into a safety.
Elsewhere, Ravens receiver Steve Smith injured his ankle and Redskins cornerback Josh Norman left with an apparent arm injury.
A full list of injuries we’re tracking is below.
Cody Kessler, Browns — Chest/ribs, questionable
Cleveland opted not to insert veteran backup Charlie Whitehurst and turned instead to receiver Terrelle Pryor, who played quarterback at Ohio State and with the Raiders.
Josh Norman, Redskins — Upper body, returned
Norman left for the locker room after landing on his arm.
Steve Smith, Ravens — Ankle, status unknown
Smith went to the locker room and later returned to the sideline, though he has yet to return to the game.
